I love that chapter 9 is solely focused on the meat industry. A lot of the other problems facing Jane in the book are put to the side so she can finally reveal the truth about the meat industry. Jane uses a family in particular for her movie, who's husband is in the meat packing industry. I personally thinks this shows a new side of Jane, quite cunning. She wants to get inside the head who is in the factory everyday. Personally, that is an approach I would definitely take.
A lot of Akiko in this chapter is about her finding her true happiness. I think the development of both characters is really coming into play. I think that as both of their bodies change so much, they can let go of some of the negatives in their lives and be able to focus on the future (in Akiko's case) and focusing on being able to complete her documentary and airing her next episode which will show a huge reveal to those watching (in the case of Jane)
Madi,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you 100 percent. I liked how this chapter mainly focused on the meat industry, and how it exposed the real truth about it. I also liked how Jane went under covered and observed families who worked in these factories. Jane also gained a lot of information from Dyann, and what the meat industries are doing to their consumers. I remember when I was in high school, and we learned about this problem. My teacher said writers would write books and articles to expose the factories, so there can be change. After all the exposure, the Government got involved and had to make a change. Jane is a bold individual, and her motivation to learn more about the meat industries is moving and inspiring.
I agree that both characters are really developing. Akiko, it seems, is not putting up with Ueno anymore and is trying to find a way out of the relationship by telling Jane about it, maybe she could help. And Jane, focusing on herself and her child, (she seems wary of Sloan because of his interest in their child) along with the big focus on how the meat industry works (in the slaughterhouses).
